YSS Yorkshire

Saturday 18 June

Not a bright start. Alex Wallman, Susan and Rob Rimmer (YSS) members all arrived at about 9.30 and the caving team  (Reynard, Gordon, Bill, Alex, Susan and Rob) was soon on its way to Bar Pot. Although we had a permit for Flood Entranceas well as Bar Pot, the decision was made to use Bar Pot only. Alex rigged and everyone made their way into the main chamber and back out without incidence.

Mike and I (Jane) did a mega cycle from the hut down to Settle and then off road over to Malham Tarn following mainly the Pennine Bridleway. From there we headed over to Mastiles Lane, which we followed to Bordley Farm. From here we headed back west, still off road, to Smear Bottoms Lane, which we followed steeply down into Gordale and Malham. Here, we stopped for tea in the Old Barn before following the road down to Kirkby Malham and over the Settle. All told about 48 kn and 1100 m ascent, at least a third off road.

Liz did the Feizor walking circuit

Sunday 18 June

We woke to rain and not a lot of plans. In the end, Bill headed off home, Gordon, Reynard and Liz walked along the river to Horton and then back down Long Lane above Brackenbottom.

Mike and I were joined by  former CCCC member Alan Scowcroft and did a fantastic circuit from the hut, over Feizor Nick to Feizor, up to Austwick, up Town Head and along to near Clapham. Then along  Long Lane and over into Crummack Dale for a fast decent and return to the hut. 20 km, 300 m of ascent, virtually all off road.
