2003 Climbing Meets List

The following list should give you some idea of the official climbing activities of the Club during 2003. All Transport arrangements will be sorted out at the pub meet proceeding the trip. If you are unable to attend the pub please telephone or e-mail the Climbing Secretary, before the Monday pub meet.

  • December 2002 – joint meet with the cavers. See caving list.
  • January 17th to 19th, North Wales, Nant Peris, hut booking for Vagabond MC hut (14 places)
  • February 27th to March 3rd (long weekend Friday – Monday), Scotland, Glen Coe, provisional hostel booking at the Inchree Centre, Onich (14 places), www.inchreecentre.co.uk
  • March 21st to 23rd, Black Mountains and Wye Valley, Camping at Ken’s house – belated house warming
  • April 18th to 21st, EASTER, Cornwall, Sennen, Caravan or camping, Sea View Caravan and Camping, Sennen – book your caravans early to avoid disappointment !
  • May 3rd to 5th, Bank Holiday, Pembroke, camping at St Petrox
  • May 24th to 26th, Bank Holiday, Meirionydd (that’s Mid Wales for those who didn’t know that – Cader Idris, Rhinogs, Arenigs etc.). New venue for us and a new Climbers Club guide book out now ! Camping, Celyn Brithion, Dinas Mawddwy . 10 pitches booked.
  • June 28th/29th, Baggy Point and North Devon, Camping Brightlycott Farm, (those who went to Lundy last year will remember this camp site)
  • July 26th/27th, Yorkshire Grit, camping courtesy of Alan. Contact Graham for details
  • August 23rd to 25th, Bank Holiday, Duddon Valley, Lakes, Camping Turner Hall Farm
  • September 27th/28th, Swanage, Camping at Tomsfield

  • October 25th, ANNUAL DINNER at Dalesbridge , Austwick near Settle in the wilds of Yorkshire. I have booked 20 bunk house spaces (2 rooms of 4 and 2 of 6 beds), there is camping on site and also B & B rooms. For details seewww.dalesbridge.co.uk or contact Pete Dawson

  • February 26th/27th/28th/29th, West Scotland, Glencoe/Fort William, Bunkhouse (NOT the hostels this year), Inchree Centre . As usual, preference WILL be given to paid up members. Accomodation booked Thursday night to Sunday night inclusive.

  • June 7th, Strawberry Fair, Midsummer’s common, Cambridge

  • August 9th to 10th, Devon (As it is a long way, do people want to stay for an extra day or two) Accommodation: Devon Speleological Society, 11 Crest Hill, Buckfastleigh, Devon Caves available: Afton Red Rift, Baker’s Pit, Pridhamsleigh cavern, Dog Hole
  • September 13th to 14th, Wye Valley Permit: 14th Otter Hole, St Arvans, Grade 5, Length 3.3km, Tidal sump, 6 hour trip, Max of 4 plus local leader
  • October 11th to 12th, Mendips Accommodation: Marks Place

  • Please note that at an EGM held on 24th November 2003 the Club voted to suspend caving activities until the national organisations, the BCRA and NCA, have resolved the current problems over club 3rd party liability insurance and landowners indemnity. This should not affect the Climbing activities of the Club for those who are listed under our affiliation with the BMC.

Pub and Social Meets

We now meet every Monday at 9pm (except Bank Holidays when there is usually an away trip), the venue is the “The Castle”, Castle Hill, Cambridge. Parking is available in the car park of the Shire Hall just up the road from the Castle. Various arrangements for club trips including car sharing arrangements are usually made on the Monday before the trip. If you cannot attend on this day please make direct contact with the climbing or the caving secretary.
